Preface: I found this unpublished draft from over two years ago. I don't know what happened to illicit this scathing review and judgement, but I figure it would be a waste to not publish it now - even though my thoughts on this particular topic have evolved and isn't accurately reflected below.
It amazes me that there are so many people out there who claim affinity to the religion of Christianity and hold on to the belief they are Christians without knowing anything about the religion's historical, political, sociological or anthropological roots. Furthermore, what I find astounding are those people who actually have the audacity to pontificate spiritual salvation under the banner of Christianity when they themselves are the worst examples of the faith.
What came first: Catholicism or the Protestant school of thought? What were the social/political factors that contributed to the creation of both religions? Who were responsible for editing and assembling the Holy Bible, as it is known today? These are all very serious questions that lead to the validity and reliability to the text that millions of people use to make life impacting decisions for themselves and loved ones. None of my known, supposed Christian, associations know the answers to any of these questions beyond simple recollections of what they heard in their own circle; and almost always the bible is referenced as if it's the source of all sources. Without knowing the factors surrounding the Bible's "genesis", many blindly accept its dogma as presented through the interpretation of preachers, ministers and priests - all individuals susceptible to human influence and error.
Even more unbelievable are those who proclaim allegiance to the faith and live a life that is in no way supportive or representative of the doctrine. Hypocrisy is everywhere and it's sickening, but its a lot more difficult to swallow when those who champion the faith willingly overlook their own actions which run contrary to, not only Christian laws, but also law of government and state. Of course, these are the first people to hide behind the moniker "we are human and sinners by natural design", or "nobody's perfect". And they are right. However, if you consciously and willingly repeat the same sin over and over again without remorse or any attempt at ceasing such acts, what exactly are you doing if not being the biggest and worst of all hypocrites out there?
It's sad, truly sad.
